ULTRASOUND FELLOWSHIP

The Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at New York Presbyterian Queens (NYPQ) was developed to further train emergency physicians in the utilization of this important diagnostic modality and to establish a strong foundation for our fellows’ academic and administrative career advancement. Over the course of this 1-year program, fellows hone their skills as educators working closely with the emergency medicine residents, as well as students from the Weill Cornell College of Medicine and other sponsoring institutions. Fellows will also develop a working relationship with both departmental and hospital administrators and gain exposure to operational components such as policy development, billing, and machine maintenance.

Highlights of the Fellowship:

  • EUFAC-accredited

  • Structured curriculum

  • Dedicated mentorship

  • One-on-one scan shifts with ultrasound-trained faculty

  • Dedicated pediatric scan shifts with pediatric fellowship-trained ultrasound faculty

  • At least 1,000 technically adequate scans

  • Weekly ultrasound didactics and tape review

  • Extensive research experience and academic opportunities

  • Mentorship to complete an original research project for presentation and publication

  • Sponsorship and funding to attend national and international conferences in EM ultrasound

  • Monthly journal club sessions

  • Four new handheld Butterfly ultrasound probes exclusively for ED use

  • Four state-of-the-art Mindray-Zonare ultrasound machines exclusively for ED use

  • Trans-esophageal probe for bedside echocardiography

  • Associated with a PGY 1-3 Emergency Medicine residency program with 9 residents per year and is affiliated with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University
